LONG ISLAND CITY, NY, UNITED STATES, September 17, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Small fleets shopping for AI dash cameras often cannot determine the full cost of a system from the advertised price alone, according to a new study from Spytec GPS.

Spytec reviewed current public U.S. pricing, product information, hardware requirements and contract terms from 17 fleet-camera providers, focusing on what businesses with 5, 10, 25 and 50 vehicles can determine before speaking with sales.

Seven of the 17 providers published at least one numerical camera-related offer that met the study’s source rules. But those numbers represented very different things, including complete systems, camera add-ons, starting prices, recurring bundles and special purchasing programs.

Only two providers — Spytec and Linxup — published enough information for the study to reproduce the complete cost of a qualifying AI fleet-camera configuration under a defined public buying path.

“We thought this would be a pretty simple pricing exercise,” said Joe Besdin, CEO of Hapn, the company behind Spytec GPS. “Instead, we kept finding prices that meant different things — camera only, an add-on, a starting price, or a special program. If you’re running five or 10 vehicles and trying to figure out what you’ll actually spend before talking to sales, that’s surprisingly hard to do.”

The study defined a qualifying configuration as one that includes road-facing and driver-facing video, cellular or cloud connectivity, fleet-management access, GPS or location association, at least one AI, ADAS or DMS safety capability, and remotely accessible event video.

Among the findings:

• 12 of the 17 providers’ primary configurations were quote-only, meaning complete pricing could not be reproduced from public information.

Spytec Pulse Vision‘s publicly listed annual pricing and automatic fleet discounts produced a modeled first-year cost of $1,899.76 for five vehicles.

• Linxup’s defined no-contract configuration produced a modeled first-year cost of $6,249.90 for five vehicles, including AI camera and GPS hardware and service. Recurring service is $65 per vehicle per month.

• ClearPathGPS lists its fleet dash camera as a $30-per-month add-on, while the required underlying fleet plans remain quote-priced.

• RAM Tracking publishes a $72.34-per-vehicle monthly price for its 36-month Advanced Fleet bundle, although the study could not reproduce complete first-year deployment economics from public information.

• Azuga advertises its dual-facing AI SafetyCam starting at $49.99 per month, but the exact product and required service stack could not be reproduced from the public information reviewed.

• Nauto publishes a separate VEDR offer at $25 per unit per month plus a $375 one-time fee, but the study keeps that product separate from Nauto’s broader AI Fleet Safety Platform.

• Lytx publishes an SF400 VEDR offer starting at $36 per vehicle per month, but those prices apply to qualified purchasers in a specific VEDR program rather than establishing general small-fleet pricing.

The study also found significant differences in how fleet-camera systems are built. Some cameras contain their own GPS tracking, while others depend on a separate telematics gateway, GPS device or OEM data source. Built-in GPS also does not necessarily mean a camera can read engine diagnostics, fuel information, odometer data or other vehicle telemetry.

The research does not rank the 17 providers or declare an overall winner. A quote-only price is not treated as evidence that a provider is more expensive, and missing public documentation is not treated as evidence that a product lacks a particular feature.

Spytec used current first-party provider sources for the study rather than review-site estimates or third-party pricing data. Spytec is itself one of the providers included in the analysis.
